Vintage Genesee Beer Holiday Ad
You are looking at a holiday advertisement for Genesee Beer, a brewery in upstate New York founded in 1878. We don’t drink, but from what we understand, it’s good beer. This was brought to us in earnest- the owner had memories of this hanging in his grandfather’s bar when he was younger and contacted us with intention of preserving and displaying it. With such fondness for the piece, of course we had to do it.
The advertisement had seen better days when it was brought to us. If I remember correctly, the ad had spend quite some time in a shed or garage.
The artwork itself was printed on paper in a non-standard size (14 1/2” x 17 7/8”).
Dirt and grime were viewable on both the front and back of the piece. Water damage was present, likely causing the buckling in the paper. Stains from (what appear to be) motor oil, foxing and pest excrement are also observable. 8 pinholes were found in the border of the piece, mainly in the corners, along with old pieces of tape in three of the corners. Color loss was found in various places, likely due to acid in the paper itself.
